1929 - 2017

Janice E. Bonnell, 87, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt passed away at Francis House, Syracuse NY on Tuesday.

Janice was born in Clifton Springs, NY. Daughter of the late Stella and Alfred Kimber of Geneva, NY. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1947, Marian Whelan School of Nursing in the very first class offered in 1956. She went on to get her RN degree in 1981 from Onondaga Community College. Before moving to Syracuse in 1978, she worked at Geneva General Hospital and for Dr. Ray Deuel for 12 years. Janice worked at Crouse Hospital from 1969 until her retirement in 1995. She was nominated for Nurse of Distinction in 1993 and was president of the Crouse Retiree Club for many years. She was a member of the civic social club of CNY and President from 2012-2014. She belonged to the Geneva Women’s Club, the Red Hat Honeys and was a member of Pitcher Hill Community Church.
She loved sports and was a great fan of the Syracuse University football and basketball teams and a very loyal Yankee fan.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Jack (Mary Lou) of Newark, NY, Robert (Susan) of Geneva, NY, William (Mary Beth) of West Simsbury, CT; daughter, Kelly (Chris Fry) Neilly of Liverpool, NY; 9 grandchildren, Peter Bonnell, Priscilla Bonnell, Mimi (Chris) Gosch, William Bonnell, Katherine Bonnell, Kirsten Bonnell, Heath (Juliann Haselmayer) Bruns, Kimberly Neilly, Thomas Neilly; 4 great grandchildren, Alex Looby, Ben Looby, Mollie and Malachi Gosch; niece, Wendy (John) Weeman and Thomas (Dottie) Hannacker.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Jack in 1979; sister, Ednamae Hannacker and sister in law, Helen Ventura.

Visitation will take place Friday, 4-6 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. A funeral service will be held Saturday, 9 AM at Pitcher Hill Community Church. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Francis House.
