Maurice J. Bateman, 87, formerly of Cicero, passed away on Wednesday surrounded by loving family. He was born on September 13, 1930 in Oswego. He served in the US Army during the Korean War as an MP. Maury was a butcher for A & P Tea Co. for 25 years and then Victory Market until retirement. He then later drove School Bus for North School District for six years. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church of Cicero and served as an usher for 33 years and as an Eucharistic Minister for 12 of those years. He was known around Cicero as the Cookie Man because he loved to bake cookies and share them with all his friends. Maurice was a loving and giving man to all his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Marie Bateman, his son, James Bateman, 2 grandchildren, Little Terry, James, brother, Richard Bateman, sisters, Faye Wallace and Sharon Bateman. He is survived by his children, Bonnie (Robert) Davis, Joseph (Mary) Bateman, Dona(Michael) Hall, Terrance Bateman, grandchildren, Nicole, Corey, Kayla, Adam, Todd, Jon, Rob, Ed, Jason, Zack, 14 great grandchildren, brother, Howard Bateman, sisters, Marlene Woodmancy, Gail Jodway, and Leah Wheeler.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3-6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St, N. Syracuse. A funeral mass will be held on Monday 10am at Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will take place at Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.

The family would like to thank the staff of Oswego County Hospice and the Rome VA for their loving and wonderful care they provided.
