Carol G. Panarites

Carol G. Panarites “The Cookie Lady”, 91, of East Syracuse, passed away Monday. She and her husband owned and operated Cosmo Restaurant from 1948-1963 on the University Hill and New Cosmo Restaurant from 1963-1973 on N. Salina St. She was a member of St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church and it’s Philoptochos Society. Carol is predeceased by her husband, John G. Panarites.

She is survived by her sons, George of Geddes, James (Linda) of Chittenango, Dean (Barbara) Panarites of East Syracuse; daughter, Katherine (Benny) LaRocca of Liverpool; brother, Angelo Scangas of Danville, CA; sisters, Sally Ritsos of Peabody, MA, Joann Mandragouras of Lynnfield, MA; granddaughters, Alyxandra, Ava Rose Panarites; great granddaughter, Denise Lancette; several nieces and nephews; and Donna R. Hamilton whom she cherished as a daughter.

Services will be Saturday, 10 AM at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse and Saturday from 9-10AM at Church.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Sophia’s Elevator Fund.
