Thomas James Gilligan III died in the in the company of family Friday, January 1, 2016, at Fahey Rehabilitation Center at Loretto in Syracuse, NY following a long illness.

Tom (“Teej” to friends and family) was born November 26, 1943 in Olean, NY, the son of Thomas James “Jim” Gilligan II and Mary Dodson Gilligan. He was a graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy in Toms River, NJ and of St. Bonaventure University in Olean, Tom earned his MBA at Kent State University.

Tom's corporate career began at Dresser Rand (Clark Brothers) in Olean, and included time in Bradford PA. He moved to Syracuse for a position at Diebold Incorporated and later to Canton, OH to become a Controller at same company. He moved to Indianapolis as Vice President of Finance for The Limited's Catalog Division and later returned to the Syracuse area to be closer to family and friends. In retirement, Tom operated "TJ's Make-a-List" home repair business and enjoyed spending time with his dogs.

Tom is survived by his children, Thomas James Gilligan IV (Tina) of Clay, NY and Sara M. Gilligan of Westerville, OH; Lisa G. Everhart (Ricky) of Lexington, North Carolina; his brother: William Dodson Gilligan (June), sisters: Sally Gilligan Dullea (Henrik) of Ithaca and Nan Gilligan Brouilette of River Forest, IL; Two granddaughters, Mariah Frances Gilligan, Jessica Taylor Everhart and one grandson Ricky Thomas Everhart; Pretty Girl-his constant and faithful companion and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, with whom he will be interred at St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

A memorial service celebrating Tom's life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 in Olean, NY with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the principal celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom's memory to the “T. James and Mary D. Gilligan Endowed Scholarship” at St. Bonaventure University. (Checks payable to St. Bonaventure University with the Scholarship name in the memo may be mailed to St. Bonaventure University, Attn: Kathleen Ryan, PO Box 2500, St. Bonaventure, NY 14778) or to the American Lung Association Of Central New York, Inc.; 1620 Burnett Ave, Syracuse, NY 13217.
