Robert L. “Bob” Wheeler, 94, of North Syracuse, passed away on Monday at the VA Hospital. Bob spent 4 years in the Army during WWII, 3 and half of those were spent in the Pacific Theatre in the 27th Infantry Division. After graduating from Michigan State University, he worked 14 years at General Electric and retired after 15 years with the Carrier Corporation. Bob was a past Commander of #25 Central City Temple and former High Priest of Central City Chapter #70. He is predeceased by his parents, Carroll Wheeler and Beatrice Engle and 3 siblings, Neil, Fran and Mahlon.
Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Elizabeth “Betty”; 3 children, Robert, Karen (Gary Lockwood) and Kenneth (Patty); 3 grandchildren, Mandy Bashore, Casey Bashore and Kelly Wheeler; 3 brothers, Charles (Bonnie), Wayne and Richard (Molly) and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday 1-3PM and 5-7PM at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. A service will follow at 7PM. Burial will take place on Saturday 10AM in North Syracuse Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chiang and staff at the VA Hospital.
