George August Benz

George August Benz, 80, of Syracuse, passed away after a brief illness surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents Alois and Caroline Benz. He was born on November 16, 1934 in Syracuse and graduated from Assumption Academy Class of 1953. He also played baseball for the Academy and won the Inner City Baseball Championship in 1953. He was still employed at Maintenance Products & Equipment Co. for 59 years. George was an avid Yankee Fan, SU Basketball Fan, he enjoyed bowling, fishing and will always be known as a hard worker.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years Georgia May, 4 sons; Michael (Carleen), Mark, Robert & Ronald (Lisa), 3 grandsons; Jordan, Michael, Jase, 2 great granddaughters; Eliana & Adelina, brother Louis (Wanda) and sister Diane (Patrick) Hill, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-4pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday 10am at Assumption Church. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Golisano Childrens Hospital.

Family would like to thank the Staff at Crouse Hospital 6th Floor and the 3rd Floor for their above and beyond care that was given to the Benz family.
