In Memory Of
John Alan Hilsinger
1943 - 2018

John “Alan” Hilsinger, 74, passed away peacefully at Menorah Park Jewish Health and Rehabilitation Center on Februuary 5, 2018.

He was the son of the late Ralph F. Hilsinger and the late Frances E. Hill and was born and raised in New Jersey.

Alan worked for 30 years at the Automatic Switch Company in Florham Park, NJ until he retired in 2003. He had previously worked as an Inhalation Therapist at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, NJ.

He truly enjoyed many sports and was an avid soccer player all through school and beyond and played for the German/American League. Tennis was his ultimate passion and Alan was certified as a teaching tennis professional. He also had many hobbies such as bowling, pool and was known to play a mean game of ping pong.

Eleven years ago, Alan moved to Syracuse to be closer to his sister’s family. Alan was lovingly known by many as “Uncle Al”. He was a big tease and affectionately called those he held dear “Monster”. His big cheesy smile and quick wit will be missed by many. To know him was to love him.

Alan is survived by his older brother, Ralph (Joan) Hilsinger and his beloved sister, Anne Stenham; three nieces, Donna, Kristine and Kelly; three nephews, Edward, Daniel and Brian along with eleven grand nieces and nephews.
Alan was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Donald “Lucky” Stenham.

We would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Buckley Landing for the wonderful care John Alan received while he lived there for the past 5 years and to the incredible staff at Menorah Park for the amazing care and loving treatment he received while living there the past 4 months. We truly can’t thank everyone enough!

Family and friends may call on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 9:30am-11:30am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in North Syracuse. A funeral mass will immediately follow at 12 noon at St. Rose of Lima Church, 411 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Burial will be at Pine Plains Cemetery in Clay, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank of Central New York, 7066 Interstate Island Road, Syracuse, NY 13209 or to a charity of your choice.
