Alberta Mae Gavin, 85, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home June 30, 2018 with her family by her side.

Alberta was born in Aynor, South Carolina on January 15, 1933 to the late James and Mary Squires. She began her career as a telephone operator and retired after working for North Syracuse School district as a teacher's aide for many years. Some of her hobbies were playing cards, visiting the casino, walking, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter V Gavin. She is survived by her three sons, Peter V. (Anne) Gavin Jr., James F. (Deborah) Gavin, David A. Gavin; a daughter, Charlene Gavin; a nephew who was like a brother to her, Lavern R James; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many relatives in South Carolina.

Family and friends may call on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals - North Syracuse, 705 N. Main St, Syracuse, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 am. Interment will be made at North Syracuse Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to North Area Meals on Wheels.
