Catherine J. (Seeger) Cardell, 72, of Syracuse, NY, died September 10, 2018 after a long illness.
Cathy was born in Ilion, NY to the late John Seeger and Jane Seeger Welch; she grew up in Ilion and Albany, graduating from Academy of the Holy Names and Hudson Valley Community College.
While in Albany, Cathy met and married the Rev. Nicholas C. Cardell, Jr. The couple came to Syracuse after Nick was called to serve as minister at May Memorial Unitarian Society. Cathy worked as an administrative assistant for May Memorial and then for the NYSDOT.
Cathy and Nick had many happy years together until Nick’s death in 2002.
She is survived by a brother, Michael (Jackie) Seeger, of East Nassau, NY and a sister, Rosemary Welch, of Syracuse, NY.
Cathy’s great passions were social justice and good blues music. Generous to a fault, she could always be counted on to cheerfully give countless hours of support the many friends she loved and the causes she championed.
A celebration of her life will be held at May Memorial, 3800 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, on Sunday October 7, 2018 at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Francis House Hospice and In My Father’s Kitchen, Syracuse.
