A U.S. Navy veteran, Dewey served as a Radio Operator aboard the Flagship USS Northampton (CLC-1 at Norfolk, VA) in the Mediterranean from 1954-1958. While aboard the ship he earned the distinctive honors of Order of the Blue Nose, A Trusty Shellback and the Order of the Boston Terrier.
Dewey retired from United Parcel Service in 1990 after a 30 year career. After retirement, he served as the Transportation Supervisor at Phoenix Central School District for 7 years. Dewey also served as volunteer firefighter for the Caughdenoy Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, and as a Boy Scout Troop leader when his son, Christopher was a boy scout.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard (Norma) Bonner and James (Erlene) Bonner.
He is survived by his Wife of 59 years, Margo Bonner; Son, Christopher (Laurie) Bonner; Daughter, Jennie (Gene) Walts; Brother, Eugene "Geno" Bonner; Six Grandchildren, Amy (Jake) Nowakowski, Sean (Rachel Black) Walts, Brianne (Steve) Sturick, Jen (Justin) Bush, Ashley (Noah) Gilchrist, Heather (Derrick) Pitt and 8 Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, N. Syracuse. A memorial service will follow at 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Caughdenoy Fire Department.
