John was born in Syracuse, New York, on January 9, 1930, to the late Arthur and Genevieve Wheeler Bowman.
He was a corporal in the US Army, serving in the Korean War.
He was a member of the LDS Church for 58 years, where he was a High Priest.
John retired from the United States Postal Service after more than 30 years of service and was a member of the NALC, and NAPS. He was a Chief of Security for Franciscan Security for 30 years.
He enjoyed traveling, and was very active in genealogy, but most importantly he loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Don Heid; two grandsons, Paul Heid, and Mathew (Meagan Ernestine) Chiumento.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Beatrice Bowman; three daughters, Donna Heid, Sherry Bowman, and Sheila (Richard) Chiumento; granddaughter, Joy Stephany; five grandsons, John Heid, Aaron Heid, Justin (Christy) Bowman, Dan (Sandy) Chiumento, and Corey Chiumento; 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, June 27, from 4pm-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, North Syracuse, NY. Additional calling hours will take place from 10am-11am at the LDS Church, 4889 Bear Rd, Liverpool, NY, where a service will follow at 11am.
Interment to take place at Maplewood Cemetery, LaFayette, NY.
