Charlotte L. Burbank, 78, left the earth, family and friends abruptly and unexpectedly June 28, 2019. And yet, as was her way, she did so without burdening her loved ones and having been ever devoted to her beloved daughter, Anita Amberg.

After receiving her Bachelor’s degree at Stetson University, she went on to a decades long career of a persistent fight with great compassion for those with no voice or power to defend themselves. Primarily with Onondaga County Child Protective Services, her dedicated work was surpassed only by her love of family, friends and precious pets.

She loved animals, admired great literary works, was a fan of jazz music or a good old musical and movies that entertained, educated, or inspired. She had a prowess for crosswords or any games with letters, and was particularly masterful at Scrabble; just ask her brother, Doug Lyon, with whom she regularly competed!

When the US Open, Wimbledon or any major tennis match was on TV, we all knew not to call to disrupt her avid viewing. A loyal friend, someone who was fully “present” in the moment, whether in a moment of need to be heard or supported, or simply because she was truly interested in you – she is greatly missed and has already left a gaping hole in the lives of many.

A celebration of life gathering will be arranged at a future date.

Donations in her memory would be welcome to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (Kanub, UT) https://bestfriends.org/, ASPCA, or Alzheimer’s Association.
