Vera M. Yackel, 93, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on Friday with her family by her side.

Vera worked as a real estate broker for DeWitt Real Estate, a crossing guard for the Syracuse Police Department, and an Avon representative for a number of years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved to be surrounded by her family and her pets.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard in 2008; her parents; her grandfather, Laurence Brockway for whom she carried precious memories of throughout her life; her sister, Marjorie Watrous; and her brother, Douglas Wight.

Vera is survived by her children, Richard, Linda, Kurt (Joan), and Jill (Eva); 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Iroquois Nursing Home for the care and special love they gave Vera throughout her stay.

There will be no calling hours, services will be private.
