Gerald L. Broadwater, 50, passed away on Saturday at the Upstate Medical University Cancer Center.

Born and raised in the Syracuse and Cazenovia NY areas, Gerald graduated from Cazenovia High School and attended Cazenovia College. Gerald’s big heart, resilient wit and courage touched the lives of everyone he met. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy Broadwater of Syracuse; their four children, James, Ceaira, Trenton, and Xavier Rapholz; his mother, Mrs. Vivian Patterson Savage of Winston Salem, NC; his father, Gerald Broadwater of Atlanta, GA; sister, Shirley P. Austin of Atlanta, GA; father and mother in law, James and Willimea Crawford; his grandmother, Mrs. Mamie Broadwater of Syracuse; aunts, uncles and cousins of Syracuse and Buffalo, NY.

Gerald worked for many years as an assistant manager and manager for Payless Shoes. He then worked at Family Dollar for many years as a manager, knowing most of his customers by name at the Eastwood store.

He was predeceased by his brother, Demond Broadwater; his grandfathers, Mr. James Broadwater of Syracuse, NY and James Patterson of Alabama, NY.

Gerald’s funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, E. Fayette St., Syracuse. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family would like to thank those at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the great nurses and doctors at Upstate Medical University Cancer Center for the care and compassion shown to Gerald.
