Dr. Robert Frank “Bob” Okun, 76, of Syracuse New York, passed away Sunday, December 8th, 2019 surrounded, with love, by his family.

Bob was born on January 22, 1943, in Syracuse, NY, to Samuel and Bernice Okun.

Dr. Okun was raised Catholic, and was an altar boy for many years, never forgetting his father's Jewish roots.

Dr. Okun attended Central Tech High School, and Lemoyne College, before moving to Mexico to finish his graduate studies, where he met his loving wife, Carmen whom he married on May 2, 1975. Together they welcomed their first son, Robert Frank Jr, in 1976, followed by their second son, Samuel Cy, in 1980 and the youngest, Benjamin Frank in 1983.

Dr. Okun was a man devoted to helping and making people happy. From dressing up as Santa Claus, entertaining the many children on our block, to providing food and shelter to people who needed it, to helping friends financially to get a University degree.

Dr. Okun graduated from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara (UAG) in 1974 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He practiced medicine for several years in Mexico. Notably he was the personal doctor to Mexican stars like Mario Almada, Beatriz Adriana, Lola Beltran, Pedro Fernandez and others.

Dr. Okun wanted to spread healthy choices to his adopting city of Guadalajara. In 1983, Dr. Okun published a one cover Ad on the city’s yellow pages with “Cien Tesis Sobre Medicina Preventiva y Medicina Geriátrica” .

Finally, he returned home to Syracuse after the untimely death of his brother, and last surviving family member, in 1991. Dr. Okun worked several jobs to provide for his family, moving everyone to Syracuse in 1996 to get his children a better future in the land of opportunity.

Dr. Okun is survived by his children, Robert, Samuel and Benjamin; his wife, Carmen; his grandchildren, Nancy, Isaac, Fernando, Rocio, Benjamin and Blake; and a great grandchild, Emytria.
