In Memory Of
Norman "Jack" Fergerson, Jr.
1936 - 2020

Norman “Jack” Fergerson, Jr., 83, of Clay, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2020 in the palliative care unit at Loretto after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and metastatic prostate cancer.

Born on October 24, 1936, the oldest of four children, he grew up in North Syracuse, graduated high school in 1954, and then served in the US Navy for three years. He loved his time on the USS WASP and traveling in Japan.

Jack met Nancy in 1959, married in 1961 and they lived in Clay, NY where they raised their three children along with countless pets. He and Nancy also enjoyed spending time at their summer home on Stillwater Reservoir, hosting family and friends.

Jack retired as a garage foreman in 1999 from the transportation department of Niagara Mohawk. Before and after retirement, he could often be found working in his personal garage or on his ever-increasing garden and lawn. He also loved hunting, fishing, just walking in the woods and building creations; all of which were famously “built to last forever.” He was always quick to help a neighbor in need of a repair or to lend tools from his extensive collection.

Once requiring more care than could be provided at home, Jack became a resident of Keepsake Village Memory Care facility for three years before transitioning to Loretto for only 9 days. Jack never lost his ability to entertain and charm the caregivers with his humorous comments, smile, and beautiful blue eyes.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, Alma (Loughnot) and Norman Fergerson, Sr., and his sister, Judy Love.

Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Harrison Fergerson; children, Jody Fergerson, Jackie Fergerson, and Jeffrey (Heather) Fergerson; grandchildren, Alex, Ian, Lily, and Lawson; sisters, Jeanne (Ed) Pierce and Jill (Jim) Mutolo.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 43 Bridge St. Phoenix, NY with a funeral service celebrating his life immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to First Congregational United Church of Christ or the Alzheimers Association, CNY Chapter, 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
