James “Jim” Michel, 76, of Clay passed away Wednesday May 13, 2020 at the VA Medical Center. Jim was born in Syracuse on November 4, 1943. He retired several years ago from the U.S. Postal Service. He devoted himself to helping others throughout his life putting aside his own safety. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. He also served as a firefighter, EMT, and Fire Police for Moyers Corners Fire Department for many years. In addition, Jim worked with the Onondaga County Volunteer Firefighters’ Underwater Search and Recovery Team, and was a Red Cross certified sailing instructor. Jim enjoyed boating, hunting, skiing, and reading.

Jim was predeceased by his mother Joyce Hathaway Michel, and father Henry “Jack” Michel.

He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne Salanger, daughter Lauren Michel (Brian), son James J Michel (Andrea), former wife Mary Michel, stepchildren Natalie Thompson (Jon), Jonathan Nodecker, and Charles Salanger, as well as his grandchildren.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no services will be held, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In his memory, contributions may be made to Moyers Corners Fire Department.
