In Memory Of
Sandra Smith Bynon
1944 - 2020

Sandra Smith Bynon passed away on November 22.2020, holding her daughter Nicole’s hand.

She was born on August 31, 1944 in Little Falls, NY to Elizabeth (née Kuzuba) and Kenneth Smith of Dolgeville, NY.

Sandra attended Dolgeville Schools and later Alfred University and Rutgers University, where she earned her PH.D in psychology.

Sandra was a gifted psychologist touching many lives during her professional career. Sandra’s intellectual achievements over her lifetime were outstanding and she was always known for her curious mind, artistic talents and always having ideas galore! She shared these talents with her friends and family.

She loved cooking and being with people. Her sisters remember a generous, kind and fun loving sister who introduced them to many new things, especially during Sandra’s time spent living in New York City.

Her daughters remember their mom who was always patient, encouraging, supportive, loving, curious and funny, who taught them to always find the beauty in life.

Her granddaughters treasure a loving grandma who delighted in her grandchildren and taught them patience, kindness and a love of art.

She loved laughing on the phone with her best friend since childhood, Jean Eckel.

Sandra raised her family in Chittenango, NY, and in later years lived in Shelby, NC, with her partner, in a beautiful house overlooking the river.

For the past eight years, Sandra resided with her daughter, Nicole, in Bridgeport, NY, making many beautiful memories and delighting her family and neighborhood friends with her sense of humor and resilience. Her daughter Nicole cherishes these years, and will especially miss laughing with her mom daily, and enjoying small moments in life together.

Sandra had a giving heart, a positive, kind spirit and touched many lives.

We want to thank the Dieni family for opening their hearts and caring for Sandi.

She is survived by beloved daughters, Nicole Bynon and her partner, Peter Dieni and Leah Farrell and her husband Peter Farrell; her grandchildren, Liza and Skyla; her sisters, Chris Lamberson, Brenda Lyons and Elaine Smith; her cousins; nieces and nephews; and her living partner of many years, Dan Dougherty. Until we meet again.

“The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love and to be greater than our suffering.”

Sympathy cards may be sent to Nicole Bynon, 1236 Palmer Circle, Bridgeport, NY 13030.

A Celebration of Life will be held later in the spring.
