David was born in Ludington, Michigan on March 5, 1946 to the late Otis and Dorothy Smith. He was a natural salesman and worked tirelessly to provide for his family. David has always been active in his church, and serving in various positions, and most recently faithfully with the men's ministry at North Syracuse Baptist Church/The Gathering Place. He loved traveling with his wife, gospel music and most importantly spending time with his family and friends. David also enjoyed game shows, puzzles, Civil War history, being at Lake Michigan, and sports. "Snuffy " was a proud member of the Mt. Morris Hall of Fame 1963 Panthers championship football team.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce E. Smith; daughter, Sarah Seymour; sisters, Carole (Gordon) Richardson, and Ruth Smith.
David is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Douglas) Filson, Amy (Matthew) Carlino, son, Phillip (Mary-Beth) Smith, grandchildren, Abigail Filson, Caleb (Marissa) Filson, Katherine Filson, Marissa Carlino, Joel Carlino, Brandon Veilleux, Brook Seymour, Josalyn Seymour, Jalen Seymour, Ian & his father Will Gray, great grandchildren, Caiden, Jobii, Alba, Eshaun, Mayson; brother, Neil (Sue) Smith, Mark (Debbie) Smith; sister, Shirley (Jim) Karenko; along with several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals - North Syracuse, 705 N. Main St, Syracuse. A memorial service will take place Thursday, March 4, at 1pm at The Gathering Place, North Syracuse.
