On July 25th, Alice J. Dameron, passed away peacefully as family members gathered at her bedside. She was just two months short of 88 years old.
Alice Jewel (Nix/Nicks) Dameron, was born on September 11, 1933 in the town of Wilton, Alabama. She was the first child of the late Amos and Dortholo Nicks. Her siblings included a sister, the late Lillie B. Nelson; and a brother, the late Amos E. Nicks, Jr., Willie “Earl” Nicks, and Paul Nicks.
Alice grew up in Alabama and graduated from Montevallo Negro High School in Montevallo, Alabama. She accepted Christ as her savior and joined hands with her Pastor, Reverend H.J. Jones. She was baptized in the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Almont, Alabama.
As a child, Alice was very active and conscientious. She loved her family dearly and was always willing to help and to do whatever necessary for them to succeed. Even in her childhood, Alice assumed responsibilities and performed tasks well beyond her equal age group. Because of her work ethic, she aggressively sought domestic jobs in well-to-do homes. Wages she earned was mostly shared with her family who was very much in need.
Upon graduation, Alice moved to find employment in Syracuse, NY. She met her husband, Joseph C. Dameron Sr. and parented seven children. She attended Syracuse University for Interior Design. They worked tirelessly to raise their children, but always found time to guide them in God’s Footpath and provide opportunities for their way of life journey.
Alice was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Joseph Dameron Sr.; and a son, Joseph Dameron Jr.
She is survived by her six children, Leatrice Parker, April (George) Pearson, Van Ester Dameron, Tina Dameron, Una (Derrick) Stephens, and Zona (Glenn) Williams; 9 grandchildren, Autumn V. Jones, Joseph L. Parker Jr., Robert Parker, Breeia Parker, Iaja Williams, M’Tia Williams, DeJon Stephens, Jerome Thomas, and Terrell Thomas; great grandchildren, Noah Parker, Amir Odister, and Ace Odister; lifelong friend, James (JB) Cobb.
She would proudly boast about all her children and their accomplishments.
Calling hours will be Saturday, July 31 from 10am-12pm with a service to follow at Four Square Gospel COGIC, 218 Webster Ave, Syracuse.
Interment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
