I was childhood friends with his son, Kevin, and often found myself at his house. Many friends’ parents in my childhood were welcoming and kind. He was, too. But what set him apart was that Mr. Ptak always seemed genuinely interested in me as a person and what I was doing. Having the ability to see people and connect with them is a gift. He had that gift.

He loved you so much Kay. Maureen, Kevin, Sean and Ryan, he always spoke of you with such love and pride. He was a wonderful son to our Mom and and I am proud to call him my brother. I remember Dan when he came to our home in LaFayette and did a neighborhood watch presentation. We had just had a few homes broken into in the neighborhood and he said it would probably turn out to be someone in our own neighborhood and he was right! Dan was a very nice man and excellent representative of the Sheriffs Department. May he Rest In Peace and my condolences to his family.

Dan was as good as they come in working with the media to get critical information to the public quickly and correctly. And he was just such a good guy. I hope you find some peace in knowing he did a lot of good while he was here.

To the Ptak family my wife (kathy) and I lived across the street from dan when they resided on dexter parkway. We are so sorry for your loss. Just want to add a funny story at this sad time. Dan always liked to leave the garage overhead door open. So this one day dan left the house and as usual the overhead was left up. Well, someone went and emptied his stuff out of the garage. Wish I had a picture of his face when he pulled into the driveway.

On behalf of my wife and myself I wish to extend our sincere condolences to the Ptak Family. We both worked with Dan at the Sheriffs Office. Dan was always a gentleman and will be missed by all.
