Doris J. Hall
1938 - 2023

Doris J. (Hummell) Hall, 84, of Syracuse, passed away March 13, 2023, with her family by her side after a long illness. Doris was born in Syracuse, New York on December 20, 1938 to Joseph and Florence Hummell. One of Doris's first jobs as a teenager was working at a carhop in Texas for a summer. She came back to Syracuse and worked at WT Grant’s and Woolworth’s Department store in downtown. She loved going to the movies and shopping with her mother Florence. After she married and had 4 children, she began her working career at Atlas Linen in 1971. She loved working at Atlas. It was there, she developed lifelong friendships that she treasured to this day. After 19 years, Atlas Linen became AmeriPride Services. She later retired in 2004 after 43 years of service. She often said she would still be working there if she could. Doris loved watching old classic movies. Her favorites being, John Wayne westerns. As a teenager in the 50’s, she experienced the birth of rock and roll. She would purchase records of all the music greats. But for Doris, there was no one that compared to Elvis Presley. His music meant the world to her. She collected all of his records and was able to see him in concert with her daughter Beth and sister Shirley. She has the ticket stub to this day to prove it! She cherished the 34 hour round trip car ride with her daughter Dawn and a friend, to Graceland, in Memphis TN.

Doris was a “HUGE” Syracuse basketball fan and attended many games. She had the pleasure of meeting the coaches and players over the years and even had dinner with the team. Her love of basketball began as a teen when she would attend Syracuse Nat’s games with her sister Delores. She passed on her love of movies, music and basketball to her children and grandchildren. But her greatest love of all, was the love for her family. She will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by husband, Harry Hall; parents, Joseph and Florence Hummell; three sisters; three brothers; son in law, Kevin Kazel and grandson, Christopher Kazel.

Doris is survived by her cat, Pumpkin; children, Beth Kazel, Harry Hall Jr., Linda (Paul) LeBlanc, Dawn (Mark) Fyffe, and niece, Helen Mitchell; grandchildren, Tya, Kelly, Lou, and Caleb; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Bosell and brother James Hummell.

Calling hours will be held, Friday March 17th, 2023 from 4-6PM at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, where a funeral service will follow. Final prayers will be held the following morning, March 18th, at 10AM at New Comer Funeral Home, with the burial to follow at Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
