Richard (Dick) E. Dausman, Sr. passed away on May 7, 2023 at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family and dedicated caregivers. He was one of five children, born to Robert and Anna (Volkman) Dausman on July 31, 1931. On January 15, 1955 he married Catherine (Cathie) Clisson, who passed away November 19, 2022. Along with his wife and parents, Dick was predeceased by his siblings, Robert Jr., Glen, Jean (Stager), and Irene (Taylor) as well as his brother-in-law David Stager, sisters-in-law, Thelma Dausman, Joan Dausman, Emmajean Dausman, and son-in-law, Michael Schlosser. He is survived by his five children, Robert of Florida, Richard Jr. (Amy) of Skaneateles, Virginia (Ginny) Fuller of Syracuse, Mary Schlosser of Allegany, and Gloria (Andy) Cummings of Fayetteville; his 8 grandchildren, Eric Dausman, Robert Born II, Kyle Dausman, Alyssa (Alex) Benway, Taryn Dausman, Caitlin Cummings, Andrew Cummings, Ryan Schlosser; and great granddaughter, Morgan Dausman.
Dick and Cathie raised their family in the Eastwood neighborhood of Syracuse, before Dick built their new home in 1987 in LaFayette, NY where they lived until 2020. Summers were spent at their beautiful family camp which Dick cherished called, "the farm" on Payne Lake near Oxbow, NY. Dick and Cathie lived their final years in Lyncourt with their daughter, Ginny.
Dick was a self-employed mason contractor and retired when he was in his 70s. He enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing (including making his own lures), trapping, bowling, attending SU sporting events, working in and around his home, “the farm,” and his children’s homes. Dick was an active member of St Joseph's Church in LaFayette where he was an usher, involved with maintenance projects, as well as a dedicated member of the apple fryer and pie making team for the annual LaFayette Apple Festival Fundraiser.
Dick (Puppa to his grandchildren) was deeply loved by many. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for his family and friends, and his sense of humor. Although he missed his wife dearly, he never lost his joy and strength for living and found great comfort in his family and caregivers who showered him with love and kindness.
Calling hours and funeral will be on Saturday, July 1 at All Saints Church on Lancaster Avenue, Syracuse from 9:30 to 11am with mass of the resurrection immediately following. The mass at 11am will be livestreamed at www.allsaintssyracuse.org
A reception will follow at the Church Center. The burial will be at a later time at LaFayette Cemetery. Donations can be sent to the Alzheimer Association or charity of donor’s choice.
