In Memory Of
Laura J. Tufenkjian
1925 - 2023

Laura Tufenkjian, 97, passed away May 19th after a 3-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Laura never met a stranger. Adored by all who knew her, always kind and caring, she was one of the most selfless women anyone could ever meet. A daughter of Armenian immigrants Jack and Elise Keledjian, Laura grew-up in Liverpool, raised her family in North Syracuse with her husband James, and retired to Marcellus. She spent many wonderful summers at Sandy Pond, building lasting memories with her family. She loved hosting large gatherings where she would bless everyone with her fabulous cooking of delicious Armenian dishes. She was a talented seamstress, produced beautiful Armenian needlework (handmade lace), quilted, crocheted, knit and even reupholstered furniture. Up to the age of 95, neighbors would see her out for her daily walk, stopping to chat at every opportunity. She adored animals caring for many different pets throughout her life, loved watching birds come to her feeders and often called her chipmunk friends “chippy” as she tossed them a peanut or two. Laura assisted her father at his Highlight Photo Studio in downtown Syracuse and worked for Travelers Insurance, GE and finally retired from New Process Gear. Laura spent her last five months being cared for by the wonderful staff at The Commons on St. Anthony in Auburn NY.

Predeceased by her husband James and brother Jack Keledjian, Laura is survived by her son David (Holly) Tufenkjian, her daughter Carol (Michael) Parker, seven grandchildren, three nieces, a nephew and brother Avak (Judith) Keledjian of Mesa AZ. Laura's ashes will be privately interred with her husband James at Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Contributions welcome in Laura's name to Alzheimer’s Association - Central New York Chapter, 5015l Campuswood Drive Suite 102 East Syracuse, NY 13057 with notifications to David Tufenkjian, 6 Kinderwood Dr. Marcellus NY 13108
