Mitty was born in West Reading, Pennsylvania on May 19, 1947. He graduated from Patton Masonic Trade School before retiring from the United States Air Force after serving in Vietnam. He was an avid roller skater, and ASA mechanic. He loved gardening and bird watching on his deck.
Mitty was predeceased by his mother, Catherine Mittower; grandson, Brandon Eccleston; Aunt Mabel Ruppert; and cousin Dolly Harter.
He is survived by his wife Kay Mittower, two sons, Robert "J.R" (Sherry) Mittower, and Sudjai Chittamard; sister, Linda Palm; grandchildren, Micah, Jordan (Tabatha), Joseph Mittower, Tasha and Thomas Eccleston, Samantha Darling, and Piyanutpk Chittamard; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Isaac, Izabella, Noah, Alanna, Josiah, Auorora, and Brandon; nephew, Christopher Starke; cousins, William and Dona Gegenfurtner, Dorothy Mittower, and Arthur Ruppert.
Calling hours are Friday, June 2, from 10-12pm with a service to follow at the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. George St., Rome, NY.
Interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Stokes, NY.
