Aaron Rene Johnson Jr., a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on April 29, 2026, in his hometown of Syracuse, New York. Born on July 5, 1976, Aaron’s life was a testament to kindness, joy, and dedication. Aaron was a proud graduate of Nottingham High School, where he was celebrated as a Bulldog, and he furthered his education at Syracuse University. His career spanned an impressive 14 years at Diebold, followed by work at Suburban Transport, where he was respected for his commitment and work ethic.
Known for his bright smile and kind heart, Aaron had a personality that radiated warmth. He was a true Viking at heart, someone who loved to laugh and make others smile. In his leisure time, Aaron enjoyed playing chess avidly, engaging in gaming, immersing himself in music, supporting the Chicago Bears, and traveling. He particularly cherished trips to Jamaica and Belize. His love for family was central to his life, with fond memories of family barbeques and spending holidays together standing out as truly special.
Aaron took great pride in his children and grandchildren, his greatest accomplishments. He is survived by his sons Quamair Johnson (partner Tatiana Herd) and Anjren Johnson (partner Timnasasia Maewether), and his step-daughter Deja Theus. His legacy lives on through his beloved granddaughters, A'Jayla Johnson and Angel Johnson. He was a devoted brother to Dr. Kanosha (Shawn) Vaughns and Tamika Johnson-Tyndale, and an uncle to Zuri Vaughns, alongside several other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, including Rose Gladney, Richard Gladney Sr., Charles Gladney, Richard Johnson, and Douglas Johnson. Aaron was deeply connected to the mother of his children, Angela Leonard, who remains a vital part of his family’s fabric. Aaron was preceded in death by his loving parents Effie Johnson (Gladney) and Aaron Johnson Sr., as well as his grandparents Mamie Gladney, James Gladney, and Edna Wright.
The community will gather to honor Aaron's memory with a visitation and funeral service on May 7, 2026, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 N Main St, Syracuse, NY 13212. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Aaron Rene Johnson Jr.’s legacy is one of warmth, laughter, and love. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him, reminding us to live with kindness and to cherish every moment spent with those we love.
