Listen to Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander J Thornton, 33, of Clay NY, who passed away on September 22nd, 2025.

Alex was born August 19th, 1992, in Syracuse, New York to Kimberly E. Root. From an early age, Alex was known for his unwavering ability to ask questions and an insatiable level of curiosity that never faded. Upon graduating from Cicero North Syracuse High School, Alex held several jobs before finding his passion, fixing things. He held several jobs as a technician as he searched for the right fit for him but spent several years at J.B. Hunt Transport, where he developed his skills and formed several meaningful relationships that he cherished.

Beyond professional accomplishments, Alex was happiest when he was around cars, especially his BMW M6, which he loved. Alex also loved computers and playing video games and spent some time playing games with his son, Xenos.

Alex's sudden passing leaves a deep void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Kimberly Palmer, his stepfather Corey Palmer, his biological father Vincent Marinelli, step mom Carrie Marinelli, his two children Xenos and Kaelynn, his four siblings Hannah, Preston, Paul, and Shane, grandparents Donald and Sharon Root, Beverley Goodelle, and Barb and Vincent Marinelli, as well as several aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 5-7pm.
