Anthony "Tony" Hornfeck, 87, of North Syracuse, passed away December 26, 2025. Anthony "Tony" was born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio on November 13, 1938 to Anthony and Dorothy Hornfeck.
Intellectually curious about the world at a young age, Anthony wrote to the Soviet Union to learn about their society and government. This could have been problematic for any parents during the nuclear arms race, but Anthony’s father was an engineer whose work intersected with the U.S. nuclear program. Fortunately for everyone, Anthony’s curiosity didn’t ruffle any federal feathers.
Anthony’s curiosity and desire to explore, continued into his young adult life. After graduating from Kent State, Anthony set out alone to drive across the country with his canoe strapped to the top of his car (no cell phones or GPS back then!) and headed for Seattle, WA, where he attended law school at University of Washington.
Deciding law school was not the best fit, Anthony returned to Ohio in search of other opportunities. It was in line at the first McDonalds in Ohio (only a take-out restaurant back in the day) where he met Sari Abel, soon to be Sari Hornfeck. Together they moved to New York State settling in Syracuse, and started a business and family. Anthony was the owner and operator of MBI Inventory Company for almost 50 years, and together he and Sari raised three children. In his free time, he loved music and opera, was a supporter of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, enjoyed watching Jeopardy and loved spending time with his grand daughter Olivia and his "grand dog" Lizzy.
Anthony lived until 87, he was a great dad and better human. He never lost his passion for music nor his desire to share music with those he loved. We will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, Sari L. Hornfeck; and brother, John Hornfeck.
He is survived by his two daughters, Robyn Cuyler, Lisa (Jason) Bogardus of Seattle; son, Ryan Hornfeck; two brothers, George (Sandi) Hornfeck and David Hornfeck; one granddaughter, Olivia Cuyler and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at a time to be announced.
