Antionette Nelson, 72, of Syracuse, New York, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 24, 1953, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Otto and Fannie Mae McDonald.
For nearly 30 years, Antionette devoted her life to nurturing and guiding children as a Licensed Child Care Provider, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives. Her deep faith inspired her work as an Evangelist and Sunday School Teacher for Tots, where she shared God’s love, wisdom, and guidance with tender care. Antionette cherished her time with the Bible, drawing strength and direction from its teachings.
Her family and friends remember her as a woman of sharp insight and heartfelt honesty, whose words were always grounded in love. She had a gift for making those around her feel seen, heard, and supported. Her creativity and warmth were reflected in the beautiful fleece blankets she made for family and friends, each stitch a testament to her love.
Antionette also enjoyed relaxing moments watching movies and sports with her beloved husband, Rickie, sharing laughter and companionship.
Antionette is survived by her children Henry Grainger Jr., Lavell (Greg) Jones, Taneea Grainger, Dominique (Rye) Mere, Rick (Richara) Nelson, and Ashley (Robert) Nelson; her cherished siblings Beatrice McIntyre and Otto McDonald; as well as a devoted circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her siblings Linda, Adolphus, Jeanne, Claranetta, and Sherrill.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Greater Holy Temple Church, followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church, located at 643 W. Onondaga St., Syracuse, NY.
Antionette Nelson’s life was a testament to love, faith, kindness, and creativity. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
