Arlene H. Brick

Arlene H. Brick, 93, of Erie Village, East Syracuse passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. Born in Schenectady, New York, she was the daughter of George and Tina Hogan. She had been a proud resident of Central New York since 1956.

Arlene was the loving mother of Steve (Patti), Ken, Patrice (Jim), Bob, Tim (Lin), Larry (Colleen) and Kris (Chuck). In 1979, she married the love of her life, Michael Brick. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and family, welcoming Mike's daughter, Sheryl (Tracy), as one of her own.

Nothing brought Arlene more happiness than her family. She was a devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother cherishing every milestone, holiday, and visit. She also embraced Sheryl's children and grandchildren.

Arlene had a gift for making people feel at home. She especially loved the holiday season, when her kitchen became the heart of family gatherings. An avid baker, she was famous for making thousands of Christmas cookies every year. Baking for those she loved was one of her greatest joys, and sharing those treats became a cherished tradition that her family will forever remember.

Arlene and Mike shared a wonderful life together, traveling the world on more than 35 cruises. They were devoted Syracuse University football and basketball fans, holding season tickets for many years and traveling to away football games and several bowl games to cheer the Orange.

In 1976, Arlene had the honor of contributing to the publication Water Wheels and Stone, a book documenting the history of Jamesville New York. She carefully transcribed the entire manuscript, a project she was deeply proud to be part of.

Above all else, Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. The people she loved always came first. Her greatest heartache was the loss of her sons, Steve and Ken. She often said “there is no greater pain than the loss of a child”. Through that difficult chapter, the steadfast love of Mike and her family gave her strength and comfort.

Arlene is survived by her beloved husband Michael; her sister, Linda; six of her children; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three additional grandchildren and three additional great grandchildren; all of whom were held close to her heart.

She was predeceased by her parents, George and Tina Hogan, and her son, Steve Schad and her son Ken Schad.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Hospital at Home program at University Hospital for the exceptional care provided to Arlene during her final week. They would also like to express their sincere appreciation to her personal nurse, Lisa Parsons, whose kindness, compassion, and unwavering support brought comfort to both Arlene and her family when they needed it most.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 705 N Main Street,North Syracuse followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Arlene’s memory may be made to the Hospital at Home Program, University Hospital 750 E. Adams Street Syracuse NY 13210.
