Barbara Newsom, 87, of Bridgeport, NY passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023, at St. Joseph's hospital. Born in Syracuse, NY on December 28, 1935, to the late Frank and Dorothy Myslivecek, she was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, Jesse Richard Newsom.
She is survived by her two sons, John Newsom and Ross Newsom; two daughters, Dorian (Brian) Coombs and Jenny (Joseph) Wheeler; grandchildren, Anna, Elise, Crispin, and Tabby Coombs, and Greg Wheeler.
Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Eastwood High School, and then employed as a secretary for General Electric, American Builders and Contractors, and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company before devoting her boundless energy and joy as a wife, mother, and homemaker.
With Jesse, she was an active member of Jesus' Church over many years. She enjoyed making home-cooked meals and baking breads, keeping abreast with family and friends, entertaining guests, and all sorts of camping and vacations. None of this stopped her from bowling leagues, where she twice scored a perfect 300. Known for wearing hats and making sure her shoe color matched her outfit color, 'strength and dignity were her clothing' as 'a woman who fears the Lord.' (Prov. 31:25, 30)
Calling hours will be at Messiah's Church, Clay, NY on Thursday, December 28 from 4-6pm with a memorial service at 6pm and food reception immediately following. Contributions may be made to Reformed Presbyterian Global Missions at https://www.rpglobalmissions.org/donate
