Benjamin Braxton ("B.B.") Dorsey, 86, of North Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Benjamin was born in Stephenson, VA on August 30, 1937, son of the late Lawrence and Zeta Dorsey. He was the youngest of 13 children. Benjamin graduated from James Wood High School in Winchester, VA in 1956. He served in the US Air Force from 1956-1965 which brought him to England where he met the love of his life. Benjamin retired from GTE in 1993. Benjamin was predeceased by his daughter; Christy Dorsey, and 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by loving wife of 65 wonderful years; Gael Dorsey, 2 daughters; Laurie Liberman and Shannon Sulewski, 3 grandchildren; Rachael (Casey), Jonathan, Carley (John), 5 great-grandchildren; Brayden, Max, Maverick, Isla and Jameson, his sister; Sue Merriner, along with several nieces and nephews.
Benjamin was a competitive athlete his entire life. He was inducted into the Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame with the National Champion Syracuse Cyclones Senior Softball Team. He played in 22 states and Canada with the Syracuse Cyclones over the course of 14 years and won National Championships in 2001, 2002 and 2006 alongside his teammates who became his lifelong friends. He was also inducted into the P. Wendell Dick Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. Benjamin spent several winters at his home in Palm Harbor, Florida. In his spare time he could be found passionately watching sports, tending to his gardens or at the casino. Benjamin's family was everything to him, and he was unconditionally supportive in all of their endeavors. He was the rock of his family and will be missed dearly by so many.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 4-6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, with services to follow.
