Bruce Raymond Weegar passed peacefully on April 13, 2026 at St. John’s Specialty Care, Mars, PA, with family by his side. He was born at home, in Syracuse NY, to the late Harry C. Weegar and Myrtle (Golden) Weegar on May 28, 1931. When he was a boy, he worked on the family farm in Cicero, NY and participated in the Future Farmers of America. Bruce attended North Syracuse Central Schools, earning varsity letters in track and setting a school record for the 100 yard dash. Bruce trained as a welder, working as a fabricator for many years. He served in the Air National Guard at Hancock Air Field, being honorably discharged with the rank of Airman 2nd class. During the 1970’s and 80’s he and his wife, Norma, owned and operated a number of businesses, including Thee Diner in Cicero, NY, and The Birches Motel in Saratoga Springs, NY. Bruce enjoyed bowling, participating in local leagues. In the summer, he enjoyed boating and fishing on Oneida Lake. In winter he enjoyed snowmobiling, ice fishing, and especially enjoyed ice boating on Oneida and surrounding lakes in his handmade ice boat. He and his wife Norma enjoyed playing cards, particularly poker, sometimes holding family poker tournaments during the holidays.
He was predeceased by Norma, his loving wife of 47 years. He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie (Miguel) Solis of Jacksonville FL and Donna (Rick) Bardou of Groveland, FL; his step-daughters, Alice Barry (Robert Jones) of Oswego, Diana (John) Bome, of Navarino, MaryAnne Barry (Paul Schmidt), of Allison Park, PA; his grandchildren Mary Espadas, David Bardou, PhD, Jessica Laughlin, Moss Clark, Trevor Jones, Kyle Bome, Emily Bome, Bronwyn Jones, Shawn Jones, James Jones, and Elle Hauschen; great-grandchildren Lany, Audrey, Oliver, Joshua, Jacob, Hudson, Lucas, Peyton, Gabriel, and Eva and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Norma, Bruce was predeceased by his siblings, his grandson Woody Clark, and great-grandson Isaac Jones.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 30th, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 Main St, North Syracuse NY 13212, from 6pm to 8pm.
