Carol Gates

Carol R. Gates, 87, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Carol was born on October 18, 1938, to Ralph and Rosella Hixson (Alden), in Corry, Pennsylvania. She moved to the Syracuse area in 1958 and had been an Eastwood resident ever since.

Carol retired from Syracuse Supply/Liftech Handling in 1993, after many years of being a devoted secretary. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially all her grandchildren. She was also an avid newspaper lover and could not wait to get the Sunday paper, reading it from cover to cover. Over the years, Carol was a regular for donating blood to the Red Cross, earning her many gallon pins. Carol also loved everything Christmas, listening to her Christmas music starting in July and Hallmark Christmas movies on repeat.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Leonard and Ronald, and her grandson Harley.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl L. Wright of Syracuse and Kimberly R. Paul of VA; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call on September 28, 2026, from 3 to 6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, NY 13212, where funeral services will be immediately following.
