Catherine 'Kitty' Domingo

December 16, 1929 — May 28, 2025

Baldwinsville

Catherine ‘Kitty’ Domingo, age 95, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Since 2004, Catherine had resided in Baldwinsville with her beloved husband of 66 years, Metro, who has since passed. She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Rob) Esposito, Charles (Laura) Domingo, and Mary Catherine Domingo (David). Her legacy lives on through them, as well as her grandchildren, Amy (Roy) Trumble, Kelly Anne Esposito, and Charles Metro Domingo; and her three great-grandchildren, Micah Robert Trumble, Izabella Lynn Domingo, and Hope Katherine Trumble.

Originally from Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania (Cambria County), Catherine was the daughter of Michael and Anna (Spinner) Deskevich. Born at the onset of the Great Depression in a hardworking coal town, she was lovingly nestled as the sixth of nine children in the Deskevich family. She is survived by her siblings Steve Deskevich, Ann Sabo, and Irene Nestor, and was predeceased by five older siblings, Joe, Andrew ‘Rip,’ Mary, Mike, and John. Known affectionately in Nanty-Glo as 'Katie' and called 'Catherine' by her mother, she lovingly became 'Kitty' after marrying and relocating to Fallsburg, New York.

From a young age through her teenage years, she embraced great responsibility in helping to provide for her family and tending to the daily work of their small homestead farm. She had a deep love for the outdoors, especially caring for animals and tending the garden. Despite any challenge, she always rose to the occasion with quiet strength and selflessness, even sacrificing her own schooling to support those she loved. She carried with her many stories familiar to those who grew up in coal mining towns of that era, stories shaped by modest means but rich in family connection. She was defined by hard work, unwavering devotion, and steadfast loyalty. Life was simple, but the love was enduring and strong.

After leaving the homestead, she found work in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, and later in Washington, D.C., where she moved with a group of lifelong friends. She often shared fond memories of picnics and celebrations on the White House lawn. She met her husband, Metro, before moving to Washington, D.C., at a Nanty-Glo “dime dance,” and they were married in 1954 after she returned from Washington and he from military service. A short time later, they moved “from the farm” to Fallsburg, New York (Sullivan County) where they raised their family for fifty years.

Catherine was a devoted homemaker and also worked as a waitress at many local hotels for over twenty five years. She was the strength, the glue, and the optimist of the family. No hardship was too great, and complaining was never an option. The phrase 'someone always has it worse' guided her kindness, faith, and joy. A social butterfly, she loved people and everyone loved her. Never one to allow herself the luxury of fun for its own sake, most of her socializing happened in the context of her work and within the community. She effortlessly connected with and befriended all those around her, regardless of social boundaries. Catherine loved generously and without hesitation. Her dependence on God and her strength in prayer were deeply significant. She unashamedly expressed her faith, praying openly and evangelizing to anyone, anywhere.

Harsh circumstances never diminished her enduring love of fun. Her favorite pastimes included polka dancing and singing Ukrainian folk songs and hymns. She never sought the limelight, but when it found her, she embraced it freely. Introducing herself as an avid polka fan to Jimmy Sturr when he came to town, and being picked as a fashion model for the local Senior Center’s fundraiser came naturally to her. These moments helped her set aside life’s difficulties and embrace feisty lightheartedness.

Unaware of her own charisma, you didn’t have to know Kitty long to feel her kindness, sweet nature, and the love she freely gave to everyone around her. She was always thankful, willing to put others before herself, and built a simple, solid life on the cornerstones of faith and family. She is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
