Catherine O'Dell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026. Born on August 2, 1938, Catherine spent her early years in Mexico, New York, before relocating to Chittenango, New York, where she nurtured a warm and loving home.
Catherine was one of ten siblings, all of whom preceded her in death: brothers Albert, Lerone, Kenneth, Carlton, Robert, Hadlen, and Danny, and sisters Anna and Tressia. She was united in marriage for 54 years with her devoted husband, William “Gabby” Armstrong O'Dell, who also passed before her. daughter, Kathy.
Throughout her life, Catherine cherished time spent with her family, creating cherished memories camping at Southwick and Selkirk Shores alongside her husband, William. Her home was a testament to her talent for interior decorating, an art she pursued with passion. She was also a skilled seamstress, delighting in making clothes for her children and grandchildren, reflecting her nurturing and creative spirit. A steadfast protector, Catherine was deeply devoted to her children and great-grandchildren, always ensuring their safety and comfort. Her love extended into the garden, where she enjoyed moments of solitude. There, tending to her plants, she found peace and fulfillment.
She is survived by her loving children Brenda, Caroline (Mark Havens), William Jr., and Jacqueline. Catherine’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren Jimmy, Jerrod, Jennifer, Ashley, Patrick, Brittany, Braxton, Bria, Wendelyn, Mark, and Sara. Her great-grandchildren Daniel, Kasey, Jacob, Wesley, Kiara, Keagan, Kallie, James, Jada, Avrum, Liam, Olivia, and Elias, as well as her great-great-grandchild Violet, carry forward her spirit and love.
Catherine O'Dell’s enduring strength, kindness, and dedication to her family leave an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her memory will be treasured by those she loved and who loved her in return.
