Charles W. Wingerter, 89, of Camillus, passed away peacefully in his home on July 28th. Known by most of his friends and family as Charlie or Chuck, he was born March 30th 1935, to the late William and Marion (Kinne)Wingerter of Syracuse, NY. Charlie had a very active life. He was self-employed for over 60 yrs. He first worked as a lifeguard in the summer at the City of Syracuse pools, but then went to work with his father in his dental lab, learning his trade as a Dental Technician. Soon he would become the owner of Century Dental Labs, well known to many of the local dentists, which he had done business with till he finally retired at the young age of 86. Charlie had many hobbies and activities that he enjoyed. In his earlier yrs he loved to paint with oils. Because he had an excellent eye for detail, this led him to the world of building miniatures. He became a member and award-winning artist with the IPMS Assoc. This also fed his love of travel. He and his late wife, Joanne would travel across the US to all kinds of shows and exhibitions that showcased his latest figures. Charlie received several prestigious awards, which included having a feature article written about him and his accomplishments in one of the IPMS national publications. His artistic abilities were also shared in the local Theater. For several yrs he was the head set designer/builder for the local theater, The Talent Company, operated by the late Christine Lightcap. This led him to another talent and love of woodworking. He was always building something in his workshop at home. If it wasn’t for the next play set, it was either building a display case for his figures or a piece of furniture for the house. He was always busy with a project. He did manage other R&R. He loved to play golf. He was either on the course at Oak Orchard or watching a tournament on TV, at least went out once a week for as long as he could walk and carry his clubs. Walking was something both Charlie and Joanne did regularly. They were both members of the Folkmarch group of the YMCA. This group got together once a month for a 5k or 10k walk around different towns and cities in the CNY area. Occasionally, the Folkmarch would plan special trips, which Charlie and Joanne would go on and travel all over the world. With all the traveling, Charlie was able to enjoy his love of photography. He always had a camera and made albums of all their trips. He never went anywhere without his camera.
Charlie is survived by his children, Patricia (Frederick) Kalil, Teri Auwae, Curtis (Michaela)Wingerter, William G. Wingerter II, and Heidi Taskey; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his half-brother Peter (Angela)Wingerter of Canastota, NY.
He is predeceased by his wife, Joanne Wingerter; sisters, Shirley Brandt of Camillus, NY and Margo Mann Alderman of San Diego, CA; and son in law, Jay Taskey.
