Concetta (Castellano) Guth of Liverpool, NY, was born on May 29, 1935, to Pasquale and Filomena Castellano in Newark, NJ, and she died suddenly on December 29, 2025, with her son John by her side.
What these dry facts don’t tell you is what kind of person Concetta was. When her ex-husband, who had Parkinson’s disease, was talking about leaving his home in Georgia to move back to Central NY, Concetta offered to take him in, despite at least one of her children thinking Concetta had obviously lost her mind. And why did she make the offer? Because, she said, it’s the right and decent thing to do. That’s the kind of person she was.
Concetta wasn’t flashy or adventurous; she was decent and kind, always choosing to see the best in others. And she raised three children who, due to her influence, example, and unwavering support and encouragement, turned out to be almost as decent as she. (There is still hope for them as they are still works in progress.)
Concetta lived a quiet life, spending her time knitting mountains of items which she donated to her church for distribution to those in need. Some of her greatest joys included watching her soaps, keeping in touch with her friends, especially those she knew from her days working at Sibley’s, hearing from her family members, and, truth be told, going to the casino. You didn’t have to ask her twice if she wanted to go to the casino.
Concetta was beloved by the many people whose lives she touched. She is already greatly missed by those she leaves behind: her sons, John R. Alfone and Joseph (Sharon) Alfone, and her daughter, Patricia (David) Newell; her grandsons, John Coryea, Steven Coryea, and Sean Newell; her great-grandchildren, Gianna and Benjamin Coryea; her sister-in-law Adele Castellano; her many nieces and nephews and their families, and her daughters-in-law, Christina Coryea and Janet Kimmel, who maintained a relationship with Concetta until the end of her life.
Upon her passing, the family believes that Concetta was greeted by those loved ones who passed on before her: her parents; her siblings, Marie Ferrentino, Joseph Castellano, and Yolanda DeNuzzo; and her husband, Ben Guth.
