Constance Zalla, passed away at the age of 94, after a brief illness, on January 16, 2026, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Born on February 16, 1931, in Syracuse, Constance lived a fulfilling life that resonated with warmth, laughter, and an infectious spirit.

Constance graduated from North High School in 1949 and subsequently worked in various roles throughout her life, including positions at General Electric and Pento's Big M. She retired from the Syracuse City School District where she left a lasting impact.

She is remembered as an outspoken, carefree individual who was the life of every gathering. Friends and family will forever cherish her huge sense of humor and her unique ability to brighten any room she entered. Constance was deeply loved by everyone whose life she touched, and her legacy is marked by her unwavering care for those around her.

The heart of her life was her family. Constance found her greatest joy in taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, celebrating their milestones and achievements, and witnessing their growth. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to family meals, particularly Sunday dinners where the family gathered to connect and share stories, embody the love she shared.

In addition to her family commitments, Constance enjoyed various hobbies, including bowling and roller skating. Her passion for cooking and baking was well-known among her loved ones, often delighting them with her culinary creations. She also had a love for casino outings, where she would enjoy the thrill and excitement.

Constance is survived by her daughter, Gail M. Preston; daughter-in-law, Cathy (Glenn) Finniss; grandchildren, Artie (Susan) Zalla, Aaron Zalla, Aimee Testa, Peter (Devon) Zalla, and Alexandra L. Preston; great-grandchildren, Rayel, Farrah, Anthony, Alexza, Gia, Sophia, Skylar, and River; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, particularly her biggest supporter, Darlene (Lou) Detor.

She was predeceased by her son, Arthur F. Zalla, in 1989; her husband, Arthur Zalla, in 2013; and her siblings, Joseph Dalesandro, Philomena A. Fiorini, and Dolores Scaia.

Constance Zalla will be remembered not only for her vibrant personality but also for the love and joy she brought into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy will live on through her family, friends, and all who experienced her kindness and zest for life.
