Dolores Ann "Dee" Rioux, née Gorney, passed peacefully into eternal rest on August 15, at the age of 100 years old surrounded by the love of her family and with her sons by her side.
Born to Joseph and Theresa Gorney, Dee was one of seven children and the last remaining member of a remarkable generation. She came from a large and loving extended family of proud Polish Americans whose values of faith, hard work, and devotion to family shaped her life.
Dee was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Alfred Rioux Sr., whom she married in 1948. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Gagnon, and her great-granddaughters, Lillian and Madeline Rioux, all of whom welcomed her into heaven.
She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis and Edith Gorney, Edwin and Elaine Gorney, Raymond and Nancy Gorney, and her brother Joseph Gorney. She was preceded in death by her sisters and their husbands, Rita and Charles Horton and Irene and Roland Pearson. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Pat McMahan of Seattle.
Dee leaves behind a family that will forever cherish the love, kindness, and memories she shared as a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her children: Robert A. Rioux Jr. and wife Ginalyn, Michael and Joan Rioux, Mark Rioux, and Jeffrey and Michele Rioux; her son-in-law Ernest and Sharon Gagnon; her daughter-in-law Fortunato Palumbo Rioux and her beloved dog Duke.
She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, along with countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A graduate of Tully High School, Dee worked as a potter at Syracuse China and later at Bristol-Myers Squibb. After dedicating herself to raising her family, she was invited to help run Sweet Heart Market Bakery in North Syracuse, where she became known for creating some of the area's finest baked goods. One of her greatest joys was helping craft beautiful wedding cakes. As she worked, she would quietly offer a blessing for each happy couple, wishing them a lifetime of love and happiness. That was Dee: caring, thoughtful, and always thinking of others.
Throughout her century of life, Dee touched countless hearts. She possessed a gentle spirit, unwavering generosity, and a deep love for family and friends. She always placed the needs of others before her own, and those fortunate enough to know her were better for it.
A woman of deep Catholic faith, Dee lived her life with grace, humility, and trust in God. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is at peace and that one day they will be reunited.
We love you, Mom, and we will carry your memory in our hearts forever.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
