Donald C. Goldsmith, a beloved figure in both his family and community, peacefully passed away on July 28, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on April 24, 1943, Donald lived a life filled with dedication, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
Donald had an illustrious career, having retired after over 20 years from the U.S. Postal Service. Before embarking on this path, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he began as a corporal. His military career was marked by notable achievements: he became a cryptologist through the NSA, played trumpet in the drum and bugle corps, and ultimately retired as a gunnery sergeant, receiving numerous awards throughout his 20 years of service.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Donald was a man of many interests and a vibrant personality. He was devoted to his family, always ready with a joke that he found humorous. Known for his generosity and empathy, he could always be counted on to step up and step in whenever necessary. This was evident in the pivotal role he played in helping raise his grandchildren. His intelligence and charisma drew people to him, making him a cherished friend and confidant.
Donald had a passion for reading, particularly crime and suspense novels, which he enjoyed alongside his love of music, with Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass, as well as Pentatonix, among his favorite groups. He also cherished spending time outdoors, enjoying activities such as fishing, hunting, camping, and he found joy in bowling. His interest in history fueled his desire to engage others in thought-provoking conversations, as he loved to ask questions that encouraged deeper thinking.
Donald leaves behind a loving family that includes his daughter, Lorie (Rob Fiesinger) Goldsmith, granddaughters, Summer Curry, Amanda Domachowske, Kasey (Christopher Upwood) Knox, and Samantha Fowler, as well as grandsons, Jacob Fowler and Maxwell Fiesinger. He was proud to be a grandfather to two great-grandchildren, with a third on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon (Howard) Cobb; brother, George (LaDonna) Goldsmith, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 55 years, Barbara Goldsmith; his daughter, Donna Fowler; his father, Donald Goldsmith; his mother, Rita Goldsmith; and his sister, Nancy Strack.
