E. Bruce Hoopingarner

Bruce Hoopingarner, 62, of Liverpool, formerly of Winter Haven and Zephyrhills, FL, passed away on Tuesday at Francis House with his son and sister at his side. Bruce had the gift of gab, a powerful voice and petulance for theatrics which led to his musical performances in 'Bye, Bye Birdie', 'Music Man' and 'Little Abner'. Bruce was an avid fisherman, spending hours on Onondaga, Oneida and Ontario Lakes as well as the Finger Lakes with Bass Masters.
He owned Backlash Bass Association. He was a Classic Champion for the Polk County Outcasts (2005- 2006, 2006-2007) and a passionate Yankees and SU football and basketball fan. A consistent donor, Bruce gave over 17 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. After 26 years at Crouse Hinds Bruce moved to Florida where he became a Certified Medical Assistant. In addition to working as a CMA, he instructed and mentored students entering the Medical Assistant field.
Surviving are his son, Graham Hoopingarner, sister, Nancy Ciampi, and nephew, Edward (Sheri) Gulka along with several cousins, former spouses, Angela McKenna and Janet Alden and finally his beloved dog Beau.
A memorial mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Liverpool, on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 12:00PM. There are no calling hours.
