Edward Warren Gilbert was born on November 21, 1938, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 10, 2025. He graduated from Syracuse Central High School in June 1954 and then attended Syracuse University part-time. He earned a CPA degree from the International Accountants Society of Chicago
Edward was predeceased by his first wife Shirley in 1992 after 32 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his second wife Sandy in 2024 after 29 years of marriage. He is survived by his son Robert (Mattie) Gilbert of Texas, his daughter Elaine (James) Swaney of Missouri, his son Bruce (Michele) Gilbert of Syracuse, his daughter Sandy of North Syracuse. He was the proud Grandfather to 12 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.
He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior as a teenager in 1954. He was a member of Living Word Church since 1978. Since accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior, he thanked the Lord daily for the grace that he gave him. Despite all of his health issues, he never complained.
He worked at Carrier Air Conditioning Co. as a production scheduler until 1997 and retired after 41 years. After he retired from Carrier he worked as a telemarketer of Natural Gas for a national company. At this position he was the top salesperson among sixty members on the team for 12 consecutive months. After one year he left this company, he went to work selling a variety of products from Cameras to Electronic office equipment for a national company. When this job ended, he talked the owner of a pleasure boat dealership into letting him run his service department. After one week the department made a profit. He enjoyed this job because he also owned a boat and loved boating with friends and family. He held this job for the summer. More recently, his focus has been on using the Internet to market Information, vitamins, sales aids, golf clubs, wireless readers, etc. This allowed him to work from home at his own pace, be with family and friends and take time off whenever he wanted. In his free time, he also enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling.
He was a member of the Syracuse Jaycees, Vice President of the Onondaga Area clean Water Association, member of Toastmasters International of Syracuse, advisor to the DeWitt Civil Air Patrol. He coached Girls Softball in the Eastwood All Girls Softball League for 5 years, served as an EMT for 5 years. He was also the Committee Chairperson to two Cub Scout Packs #140 (Syracuse) and #177 (East Syracuse) and two Boy Scout Troops #140 (Syracuse) and #177 (East Syracuse) for 10 years.
He also volunteered at Living Word Academy. During his days at Living Word Academy, he was on the newspaper staff, helped coach boys’ baseball, girls’ softball, and ran a combination Junior Achievement / Explorer Scout program for 2 years, assisted in the 9th grade math program and driven countless miles bringing players back and forth for soccer, volleyball as well as track and field and then enjoying the Sportsmen’s Club.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Church of the Living Word located at 6099 Court Street Road. Respects can be paid to the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., service will follow immediately after. Burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery on 6633 Kinne Rd in DeWitt.
