Elaine (Aspin) Chapin

December 20, 1940 — May 6, 2025

Liverpool

Elaine (Aspin) Chapin passed away on May 6, 2025, in Syracuse, New York, at the age of 84. She was born on December 20, 1940 in Amsterdam, New York. On June 22, 1966, Elaine married Milton Chapin, with whom she shared a profound love for nearly 60 years. Their partnership was a testament to commitment and companionship through the decades. Elaine was a graduate of Wilbert H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam, New York and SUNY Oswego, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught Secondary Mathematics for several years at the South Otselic Central School.

Elaine was also active in her community. She served as Treasurer for the South Otselic Teachers Association and a similar supporting role at the South Otselic Volunteer Fire Department, so she could serve alongside husband, Milton who was a volunteer firefighter. Elaine was known for her crafting skills including crochet, sewing and creating stationery and greeting cards with lovely, intricate embellishments that she sent to her family and wide circle of “pen pals” across the country and overseas. In later years, Elaine was a dedicated caregiver for Milton.

Elaine is survived by her brother-in-law, Malcolm (Roxine); sister-in-law, Anna Cruikshank; several nieces and nephews, Sherri, Heather, Wendy (her sons, Liam and Aidan), Jenifer (husband, Paul and their daughters, Callie and Mackenzie), Sandra, Deborah, Rebecca, Kellie, Jeffrey, Shannon, and Richard. She also leaves behind close friends who were like family, Peg, Julie and Chris, along with extended family members who will cherish her memory.

She was predeceased by her husband Milton, who entered eternal rest one day before her on May 5, 2025; her parents, Herbert and Edith (Rohling) Aspin; brother-in-law, Alfred Jr. (Joan); as well as sister, Gail (David) Griffin.

Elaine’s love for her family and friends will live on in those she touched throughout her lifetime.

The family would like to express our deepest thanks to the dedicated staff of Crouse Hospital, especially the ICU crew, for the wonderful medical, spiritual, and emotional care and support rendered in her final days.

In keeping with Elaine’s wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the South Otselic Volunteer Fire Department in her memory.
