Floyd R Backes, 78, of Syracuse, NY, passed away on 10/11/2020.
Floyd was born on June 21, 1942 in Tulsa, OK and was a Signalman in the US Navy aboard the USS Forrestal CVA-59 from 1959 - 1963.
After honorable discharge from the Navy Floyd obtained his private pilots license and enjoyed flying recreationally with family and friends.
Floyd was a professional over-the-road truck driver for 35 years. When he was not flying or driving he enjoyed boating, air-shows, classic movies/comedies, and music, but above all Floyd was a devoted husband, father, grand-father, and Great-Grandfather.
Surviving family include Sandy Backes and their 4 children Lynn Eileen, Floyd Raymond Jr., Michele Marie, Colleen Ellen (Dave) Wallace, 13 Grandchildren (Bobby, Danielle, Kayla, Brooke, Ricky, Nicole, Corinne, Emily, Alexis, TJ, Caleb, Ashton, Brielle) and 4 Great-Grandchildren (Leilenn, Dominic, Camilla, and Dahlia).
Floyd gave back to his community as a volunteer firefighter and member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Golisano Children's Hospital and Veterans Association.
Services will be private. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
