Francis J. Miller, a dedicated and skilled mechanic whose career spanned several decades and various esteemed institutions, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026. Born on May 22, 1934, in Syracuse, Francis lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a passion for both his craft and the arts.

Before embarking on his distinguished career in mechanics, Francis honorably served in the Marine Corps, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment and discipline. After his military service, he applied his mechanical talents first at Cicero Dodge, where he honed his expertise in automotive repair. Later, he extended his skills to public service through his work with the Department of Transportation as a mechanic. In the later years of his career, Francis served as an Inspector for the Department of Motor Vehicles, ensuring vehicle safety and compliance until his retirement.

Francis was not only a man of technical precision but also one of artistic sensibility. He enjoyed painting with watercolors, often capturing the serene beauty of sailboats, a reflection of his appreciation for tranquility and craftsmanship. His enthusiasm for home improvements and mechanic work extended beyond his profession, embodying his hands-on approach to life. Alongside his beloved wife, Leona, he indulged in travel adventures in their motor home, escaping the snow and exploring new horizons together.

Family was at the heart of Francis’s life. He and Leona shared over 65 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring bond. He is survived by his sons Glenn (Diana) Miller and Mitchell (Laurie) Miller, who carry forward his legacy of dedication and kindness. Francis’s grandchildren, Kristina Menkins, Gregory Miller, Jr., and Zachary Miller, along with several great-grandchildren, will fondly remember his warmth and guidance. He also leaves behind his brother, Donny Miller, and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished his presence.

The family mourns the loss of son Gregory Miller, Sr., and brother Richard Miller, who preceded Francis in death. Their memories remain integral parts of the family story.

Francis J. Miller’s life was one of service—to his country, his community, his family, and his passions. His legacy of craftsmanship, devotion, and quiet strength will be remembered with great respect and affection. Those who knew him will carry forward the lessons he imparted and the love he so generously gave.
