Gerald Downey, 30, of Cicero, passed away August 25, 2026. He was born in Syracuse, New York, on May 3, 1996, to David and Peggy Downey.
Gerald worked in Tully’s corporate offices alongside members of his family and many friends while working towards a degree in early childhood education, with the goal of becoming a first-grade teacher.
Gerald was a friend to all, especially small creatures. You could often find him with a frog or lizard he’d gently scooped off the ground nestled in his palm. He was playful and spontaneous, always happy for a last-minute visit with friends or a late-night video game with his nieces and nephews. Gerald was happiest at his family’s camp on Lake Ontario, barefoot and shirtless playing with his children in the grass or watching the sunset with his wife, Kelsey, at his side. He cherished his family above all, from summer nights by the fire with his parents to trips to the zoo with his wife and kids.
He blossomed in his role as a husband and father, with his deep love and dedication for Kelsey, Malcolm, and Haven being the driving force behind everything he did. Family and friends looked forward to daily pictures and updates from Gerald, who was so proud of the family he and Kelsey had built. His memory and his light live on in their beautiful children, who will always know the love he had for them.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents William Dennee, Gertrude Dennee, Edward Downey, and Jean Downey.
He is survived by Kelsey Haven, his wife of four years, their son, Malcolm Downey, and daughter, Haven Downey, as well as three sisters, Lisa (James) Jones, Lori (Ryan) Rathburn, and Tara (Jared) Leary.
Family and friends may call on Kelsey and the children from 4 to 7 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 North Main Street, North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to support Kelsey, Malcolm, and Haven.
