Geraldine (Geri) Gamlen, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, with her family by her side, at the age of 89. She was born on July 16, 1936, to John S. and Stella Reis in Syracuse, NY.
Geri dedicated her life to helping others, with a career that exemplified her compassion and selflessness. She was a beloved long-time Certified Nurse's aide and member of the Hickory Farms 250 Club.
Geri was a beacon of light in the lives of many. Known for her fun-loving spirit and caring nature, she was someone you could always count on. Her loyalty and willingness to lend a hand made her a friend to all who crossed her path. Those fortunate enough to know her often recall her delightful home-cooked meals made from scratch and the good stories she would tell, bringing warmth and joy into every conversation. Geri had a unique talent for finding solutions to life's challenges.
Her hobbies and interests reflected her engaging personality. Geri enjoyed the challenge of puzzles and word searches, and she found joy in playing games. She was an avid fan of SU basketball, often spending time watching games while enjoying the company of family. Geri loved spending time on her porch, where she found serenity. She loved to share family memories, showcasing her love for family and friends.
Geri leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Kathy (Greg) Garcia, and her son, Gregory (Terry) Gamlen. She was a proud grandmother to Gretchen Schwartz and a great-grandmother to Grace (Elliott), Eli, and Mila. Additionally, she embraced the role of great-great-grandmother to little Ella Grace. Geri's legacy continues with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good longtime friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
She is reunited in heaven with her husband, Earl H., and her son, Earl F. She is also preceded in death by her parents, John S. and Stella Reis, and her brother, John R. Reis.
Geri’s indelible spirit and loving nature will be profoundly missed. Her life serves as a testament to the impact one person can have on a community and the profound love that bonds family and friends together. She is remembered with respect and fondness by all who were touched by her kindness.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, with a service at 10:30 am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St, North Syracuse, NY 13212. With a burial to follow at 12:00 pm at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 95 Rositia St, Syracuse, NY 13209.
