Listen to Obituary

Herman Leslie Hubbard, a devoted family man, passed away on October 17, 2025, in Oswego, NY. He was born on February 20, 1937, in Victory, NY, and graduated from Red Creek High School, where he exhibited a passion for sports, particularly basketball and soccer. He found himself the only guy in his high school home ec class where the girls would cook for him. You could occasionally find him skipping academics to spend time in the gym. During this time, he worked at the local cemetery alongside his father and worked on farms.

A proud veteran, Herm served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1960, where he further developed his love for team sports, playing softball for the Perrin Pilots during his service. Throughout his life, he remained committed to both his faith and community, being a member of Wetzel Road Church of Christ in Liverpool, NY where he served as an Elder and Netherland Church of Christ, Tennessee.

Herm embarked on a career beginning with Motts following his service in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He continued his career, servicing machine's with GE, before becoming a salesman with Nationwide Insurance and then as an independent salesman, where his engaging personality shone brightly. During this time, he drove a school bus, a Joy (church) bus, delivered pizza's, and appraising houses, making ends meet. Home appraisal's led to a career in Real Estate. Following his career in Real Estate, he returned to being a mechanic, employed through Syroco and then drove a tractor trailer for Schneider. Kim and mom found that the best days of the week were Friday when he came home from driving, and Sunday when he went back out. After moving to Tennessee, he drove a dump truck until retirement. Through his big personality, he was known to many as a "people person." His genuine nature and approachable demeanor allowed him to connect deeply with others.

Herm's hobbies included hunting, camping, roller skating, boating, slalom water skiing, and playing ball. Each year he took pride in both growing and eating vegetables from his own garden. He played Sunday night pick up basketball with the gentleman at Wetzel Road into his 50s. He was the supportive figure in the lives of his loved ones, no matter the challenges he faced.

Herm is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn Lee Fitzgerald Hubbard; his daughter, Marnita (Gary) Hubbard Ware; daughter-in-law, Anne Hubbard; sons, Leslie Andrew (Kara) Hubbard and Aaron Lee (JaNese) Hubbard; grandchildren, Christopher (Jenn) Ware, Morgan Hubbard, Briana, Brett, and Kyra Nielsen, and Jordan, Kaelee, and Eric Hubbard; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Nielsen and Skylar and Harper Ware; and his sister, Beatrice (Roy) Henderson.

Herm's legacy is honored by those who knew him, especially his family and church families, whom he considered his proudest accomplishment. He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan "Jon" Edward Hubbard; granddaughter, Jayma LeeAnn Ware; parents, Hiram and Eunice Blass Hubbard; and his sister, Gertrude (Donald) Wilkinson.

The family would like to extended their sincerest thanks to the VA, The Maples Assisted Living and St. Luke Skilled Nursing. A special thank you to his daughter in law, Kara, for her efforts and care during the last 2 plus years.

A Visitation will be held on October 26, 2025, from 1-2PM, followed by a Memorial Service from 2-3PM at Wetzel Road Church of Christ, where all are welcome. The family is planning an additional celebration for family and friends in Tennessee at a later date.

As dad would say, "make it a great day!"
