James (Jim) Louis Matthew Conley

James (Jim) Louis Matthew Conley, age 85, of Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his loving family. 

Born on June 23, 1941, in Syracuse, Jim was a lifelong resident of the community he loved. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard from 1960 to 1964. Following his honorable military service, he dedicated his career to public service, working for many years as a respected Corrections Officer and Special Deputy for Onondaga County. 

Known for his sharp mind and great sense of humor, Jim was an avid music fan and trivia genius who loved making people laugh. More than anything, he loved his family and friends. He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Sherry Morrow, and took immense pride in his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. 

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Morrow; his children, Jimmy Conley, Paul Conley, Olivia Conley, Lauren Murphy (Matt) and their children, Hadley and Pippa; Paige Morrow (Jake); Robert Howard (Kathy); and his daughter-in-law, Michele Conley. Jim was a proud grandfather to Jacob, Beth, Michael, Stephen, Rebekah, and Kenny, and further blessed by a generation of cherished great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear sister, Carol Hitt, as well as several adored nieces and nephews. 

Jim now rests in peace alongside his son, Brian Conley; his parents, James and Mary Conley; his sister, Maryann Lyle; and his niece, Kimberly Hitt. 

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 17, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Comer Cremation and Funerals; 705 N Main Street, North Syracuse, NY, 13212. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 18, at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Church in DeWitt.
